Kent
v Buckinghamshire at Olney BC
Our final game
this season took us to Buckinghamshire in search of three points to secure the Home Counties League title. Having been scheduled
to play ay Denham BC the game was moved to Olney on Thursday due too the condition of the Denham green, so first of all I
thank all the players for agreeing to make another seventy mile round journey to play the game.
As it turned out the journey was well worth the effort as we won on five rinks with
an overall score of 132-97 which gave us twenty points to comfortably win the league. Again there were some impressive performances
and it was good to be able to bring in Jack Jarvis for his first HCL game after just qualifying for his badge having won the
county pairs title.
With five convincing wins and a narrow
defeat at Croydon against Surrey it has been a good performance by the squad of players used for this year’s campaign
and I thank them all for their support and it just proves we have a really good pool of players to choose from after we have
used our quota of eight Middleton Cup players.
Personally
I now look forward to seeing many of our players at Leamington over the next two weeks and I wish them every success and hope
they can bring some silverware back to the Garden of England. A special congratulation has to be made to Lee Shoobridge as
he has qualified in National competitions to play at Mortlake, Worthing and now Leamington.

Home
Counties League
Kent
v Oxfordshire at Halls BC
Our
fourth Home Counties League game took us to Halls BC to face Oxfordshire for
the second week running for a crucial encounter in the league. Although
our visitors had the better of us in the Middleton Cup the previous week they
faced a Kent team ready to avenge last week’s defeat and to maintain their push
to win the league title again. We
were always in front by about ten or twelve shots but towards the end of he
game Oxfordshire, as per last week, showed their determination and closed the
shot difference to just two before we on this occasion held our nerve and held
out for an all important win (106-99). This gave us seventeen points and the
visitors five and leads us to an
exciting prospect
facing Middlesex on 26th
July at Aylesham & Snowdown BC, as before yesterday’s games Middlesex were
just a few points behind us in the league.
Yesterday
saw Grant Allen’s rink lead the way with a ten shot win and there was also wins
from Duncan Hanmore’s and Dan Stearns rinks with Bob Shields rink picking up
three good shots on the last end to draw their rink. On this occasion Paul
Field’s and Chris Smith’s rinks went down, but an important five shots on
Chris’s last end helped to secure the overall win. Well
done to the team and let’s put two more good performances together to secure a
league win for my mate President Tony!

Home Counties
League
Kent v Berkshire
at Gravesend BC
Our third
Home Counties League game gave us our first home game of the season in this
competition and we took advantage of it by extending our lead over second
placed Berkshire at Gravesend BC on Saturday 28th June
We were
always comfortably ahead in this game mainly due to a flying start on Duncan
Hanmore’s rink, but towards the end, during some steady rain, Berks did close
the gap before we eventually came home with a 119-107 shot victory and 18 valuable
points, which at the half stage of fixtures leaves us in top position.
In this
latest game after making several last minute changes to the team, there were
wins for Duncan Hanmore’s, Jeff Vane’s, Michael Goord’s and Paul Field’s rinks
with defeats for Chris Smith and Steve Savage, but all in all it was a good
team performance.
With home
games against Oxon and Middlesex and a late season journey to Buckinghamshire
the destiny of the league title is in our own hands and I am looking for three
more good performances, and hopefully less enforced team changes!
